SUMMARY:1st Congress on Food Structure Design
DESCRIPTION:The goal of the 1st Congress on Food Structure Design is to strengthen at academic and industrial levels the scientific understanding of product design and engineering and to stimulate and accelerate the development of innovative\, complex and highly structured products and suitable production processes. \nThe main topic of the 1st edition of the Congress is therefore the design of health-supporting food functions with the aim of developing food structure/health benefits relationships in complex real multiphase structured foods with optimal sensory quality. Knowledge aimed at underpinning the understanding of the role of biomolecules in food structuring and their impact on health and quality will be also included. \nThis conference is meant to gather an interdisciplinary team of scientists from different research areas (food engineering\, biophysics\, applied soft matter\, food technology\, applied human nutrition\, creative design) in the frame of an integrated process & product design approach for creating innovative multiphase structured foods. \nThe congress is organized by COST Action FA1001 and a special session co-sponsored by the COST action TD1104 will be held on Wednesday\, 15 October 2014. \nMore information and registration at: https://www.skyros-congressos.pt/foodstructure/index.html

SUMMARY:Gordon Research Conference
DESCRIPTION:Bioelectrochemistry\nCellular and Organismal Responses to Endogenous and Exogenous Fields\nJuly 6-11\, 2014\nUniversity of New England\nBiddeford\, ME \nChair: \nDavid A. Dean \nVice Chair: \nMarie-Pierre Rols \nBioelectrochemistry is an extremely broad subject\, incorporating the basic disciplines of biophysics\, cell biology\, developmental biology\, electrochemistry\, bioelectromagnetics\, nanotechnology\, computational and mathematical modeling\, engineering\, physics\, and medicine. An improved understanding of how cells and tissues interact with electric and magnetic fields has stimulated development of novel clinical therapies for detection and treatment of soft tissue tumors\, wound repair\, stem cell differentiation\, and for non-viral gene delivery via electroporation. Further\, the field has contributed to our understanding of cellular and organismal development\, as well as how electric fields can alter these processes during normal and aberrant growth. All of these areas are the subject of the 2014 Gordon Research Conference and Gordon Research Seminar on Bioelectrochemistry. The Conference will focus on the basic molecular mechanisms related to these areas and will include many new and innovative studies that will expand our knowledge and appreciation of the field. While the Conference deals with many divergent areas\, great emphasis will be placed on stressing the connections between the planned sessions so that all participants are engaged to create a unified meeting. \nThis conference is unique in its design to bring together researchers on bioelectric fields and clinicians to consider how these techniques can be developed further to yield novel clinical applications. This requires improved understanding of both the beneficial and detrimental consequences of electric field exposure to cells and the identification of specific medical questions that have the potential to be resolved using electrically based therapies. Attendees are encouraged to present posters that stimulate additional discussions. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for junior researchers (e.g. graduate students or postdocs) to present their work to leaders in the field within a uniquely constructive atmosphere. Further\, the associated Gordon Research Seminar will facilitate these opportunities. \nMore information about the Conference and the speakers at http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2014&program=bioelec

SUMMARY:MIPRO 2014 - Action session at the International Workshop/Conference
DESCRIPTION:The meeting organised in Croatia between May 26th and 30th is expected to attract experts in the field of electrical and (micro)electronics engineers. Their collaboration is needed in developing new devices that are used in electroporation-based technologies and treatments. Furthermore\, the meeting in Croatia is likely to attract attendance from the Balkan area\, and potentially facilitate the participation from  other COST Countries such as Bosnia-Herzegovina and Hungary\, as well as Near Neighbour Countries like Montenegro. COST TD1104 will thus present its activities and seek engineers in microelectronics and others to direct their research and development towards interest of electroporation applications. \nFor more information\, visit the official hompage of the conference at http://www.mipro.hr or download the attached leaflet in PDF (below).

About 150 international guests met up in Osnabruck to exchange and learn about novel processing technologies. In 2013\, the German Institute of Food Technology (DIL) wants to build on these assets and host the next iFOOD Conference. It will take place from 8th to 10th October in Hannover and will focus on bioeconomy\, novel food processing and automation in the food sector. \nMore information and registration: www.ifoodconference.com
